Smooth rides & safer walks: Roads in Calangute see major upgrades
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has spearheaded a series of road widening and hotmixing projects in various parts of the constituency this year.

CALANGUTE

Once considered an achievement, providing well-maintained, motorable roads has today become a basic necessity “ a sentiment that Calangute MLA Michael Lobo appears to have taken to heart as he intensifies development work across the coastal belt.

In line with his ongoing mission to upgrade road infrastructure, Lobo has spearheaded a series of road widening and hotmixing projects in various parts of the constituency this year.

Among the key highlights is the scenic Parra to Saligao stretch, a nearly 3-kilometre route that has been completely hotmixed. The upgrade has provided a smooth and seamless driving experience to motorists traversing this picturesque belt, which is also a favourite among tourists.

Another notable development is the hotmixing of the road in Orda, Candolim, near the residence of former Speaker Tomazinho Cardozo. The upgrade is part of a broader initiative to improve road conditions on several internal and arterial roads within the constituency.

“We are committed to ensuring that every corner of our constituency is accessible through good quality roads. Infrastructure is not just about travel but also about safety, convenience, and quality of life,” Lobo said.

Lobo further revealed that the road improvement initiative extends beyond surface repairs. Several internal roads have been taken up for widening, aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing commuter comfort.

Footpaths are also being constructed along major thoroughfares to ensure pedestrian safety “ a growing concern in the busy tourist-dominated region.

In a bid to further enhance road safety, Lobo announced the construction of roundabouts at critical junctions prone to accidents. These traffic-calming measures are intended to regulate vehicular flow and reduce the chances of collisions. Additionally, the MLA assured that speed breakers, rumblers, and appropriate signage will be installed wherever necessary.

The current year’s development follows on the heels of a similar set of road improvement projects undertaken last year, as part of Lobo’s long-term infrastructure roadmap for Calangute.
