'Smart' bus stops: KTCL to seek no objection from landowners

PANAJI
As 161 'Smart' bus stops are likely to enhance public transport accessibility across various routes in and around Panaji, the State government has directed the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) to obtain no objection from private landowners, where applicable, before commencing the work.

These bus stops will be located in different parts of Panaji, Taleigao, St Cruz, Bambolim, Mala, and Neugi Nagar, with the likelihood of some encroachment on private property.

“The bus stops shall be erected, subject to No Objection from the private landowners, if applicable, and the same (is) to be obtained before commencement of the work by the Managing Director, Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd…” reads a govt notification.

The Managing Director of KTCL is also instructed to publish this notification, detailing the locations of each bus stop and outlining other conditions, through the Director of Information and Publicity in newspapers. The govt has also directed collaboration with the Public Works Department to make necessary arrangements to put up 'Bus Stop' signboards at identified places to regulate traffic. Compliance is sought within 30 days.

The conditions also direct that "no stage carriage shall take up or set down passengers except at the place shown as 'Bus Stop'".

“No stage carriage shall halt at the 'Bus Stop' for a period longer than necessary to pick up the waiting passengers and to alight them as they may wish to. The Bus Shelters shall not be mounted close to the carriageway of the road and provision for Bus Bay shall be made, so that at no point vehicular traffic on the main carriageway of the road is obstructed,” the notification further states.

Construction of bus stop shelters as per IRC guidelines and the requirement to be disabled person friendly, etc, are among other conditions to be adhered to.
