CANACONA
The Canacona Municipal Council has, however, blamed Agonda panchayat and beach shack operators in Agonda for the garbage menace along the Canacona-Agonda road near the Garbage Treatment Plant at Dumane.
“People, perhaps tourism stakeholders running shacks at on Agonda and Khola, throw garbage bags on the road outside the GTP plant under the cover of darkness. We have warned offenders several times before, but this is continued and the result is seen on the roadside,” said Naikgaunkar.
When reminded that Agonda Panchayat holds daily and regular garbage collection drives particularly along its coastal belt and has its own garbage processing unit at its MRF, Naikgaunkar denounced their collection as a farce.
“That’s the reason people brings and dump wet/dry waste outside our GTP at Gumane. Some dump large black garbage bags, while others simply throw open bags outside the GTP’s gate near the road,” said Naikgaunkar.
Naikgaunkar informed that CCTV cameras are being installed along the Canacona-Agonda road.
“Once that is done, culprits will be taken to task. But at present, Agonda panchayat should take measures to stop this practice at Dumane,” he added.
