SMC persuades dry fish vendors to do business at another place

SANGUEM
They may be unhappy about the location for their stalls for the seven-day fair on the occasion of Our Lady of Miracles Church feast at Sanguem, but dry fish vendors were persuaded by the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) to shift to the alternate place where the weekly Wednesday market takes place.

As the alternate site was waterlogged on account of rains in Sanguem, SMC Vice Chairperson Queiroz Cruz made immediate arrangements to cover the area with sand. Arrangements were also made by the SMC to assist the dry fish vendors in putting up temporary shelters to conduct their business.

Councillor Meshu D’Costa, who has been sympathising with the dry fish vendors to get their stalls installed at their usual place of business, was seen assisting the dry fish vendors in getting them settled at the new place. When contacted, Cruz said the SMC had to shift the dry fish vendors to the alternate place as the SMC hall was booked for a wedding for three days next week.

“The readymade garment vendors usually occupy the open space in the premises of the SMC, but since this open space will be used to park vehicles for the wedding, the readymade garment vendors will now be shifted on either side of the road leading to Boilapar,” said Cruz.
