Ever since facing the problem of submerged roads due to breaches in the bundhs at Malar-Divar, the locals have been only getting assurances that the bundhs would be repaired at the earliest.

However, till date, nothing has happened as the government authorities are taking their own sweet time to resolve the issue.

But, businessman and social worker Rajesh Faldessai was not one among them as he took it upon himself to repair the breaches in the bundhs, the work for which has started since the past couple of days.

When contacted by The Goan, Faldessai said that he saw how various politicians assure the locals that they have put up the file with the departments and that process in underway. “Like this it will take years,” he opined.

“I went one day to the village and saw it for myself how people are suffering as they have to wade through knee deep water to reach their homes,” Faldessai stated.

“I did not meet too many people but only some locals, and I said that I will get the work done so that the problem is solved and people get relief,” he added and said that from the next day he began the work of getting the material required for repairing the breaches, for which work has started since couple of days back.

“There are four breaches in the bundhs and I am repairing the same at my own cost for which 32 labourers are employed and 4 canoes requisitioned,” Faldessai informed and stated that the entire work should be completed in 20 days time.

“I also met the tenants association members who said that they would be grateful if the work on repairing the breaches was taken up,” he added.
