PANAJI
Social worker Shivprasad Shirodkar on Tuesday joined the Indian National Congress along with hundreds of his supporters, giving the party a boost in the Shiroda constituency ahead of 2027 polls.
Shirodkar was formally inducted into the party at Congress House in Panaji by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar.
The induction programme was attended by AICC Goa in-charge Manickrao Thakare, AICC co-in-charge Anjali Nimbalkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, GPCC Working President MK Shaikh and other senior party leaders.
Welcoming the new entrants, Congress leaders claimed the large-scale induction reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the BJP government over alleged corruption, misgovernance and anti-people policies.
They said the development would strengthen the party's organisational base in Shiroda and help expand its grassroots presence ahead of future electoral battles.
LoP Yuri Alemao said that the anti-incumbency against the BJP is seen throughout Goa. “But it is the highest in Shiroda. What is needed to oust the BJP in Shiroda is unity. We will definitely form the Government in 2027,” he said.
Speaking after joining the party, Shirodkar said he had reposed faith in the Congress leadership and would work for the welfare of the people. He also pledged to strengthen the party at the grassroots and take its message to every household in the constituency.
