Socorro takes stock of devp works, presents budget

PORVORIM

Several key issues, including  development of playground, garden, widening of road, collection of garbage and covering of gutters, were discussed in the gram sabha of Socorro village panchayat held on Sunday.

The sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar welcomed the gathering and panchayat secretary Chetan Shirodkar read out the minutes of the last gram sabha.

Later, the panchayat secretary presented the estimated budget of Rs 4.49 crore of the panchayat for the year 2018-19 as also the audit report for the year 2016-17.

Soter D’Souza mentioned that in Socorro many people have taken houses on rent in company’s name and these houses have been rented out to tourists by the tenants. “These tourists create nuisance in the night by consuming alcohol. The panchayat should bring these facts to the notice of the police and also collect professional tax from the said tenants,” he suggested.

The sarpanch stated that Porvorim police have carried out tenants’ verification recently in Socorro. Panchayat will collect the information of tenants from the police and then take necessary action, assured Vazarkar.

He also informed the villagers that the panchayat has undertaken the work of widening of road from Socorro church to Vaddem. Some people are unnecessarily creating obstacles for the widening of the road. As the number of vehicles has increased in the panchayat area, this widening has become necessary and hence cooperation of the villagers is important, he appealed.

The youth from Kharrem-Vaddem demanded that the ground in survey No 183/1 should be developed by the panchayat to facilitate playing of football and cricket. The sarpanch assured to take up this issue with the Porvorim MLA. Tanmay Kunde mentioned that the panchayt should lay speed breakers near the Holy Family School and Aishwarya building.
