“Yes, Mickky was the face of the GVP before he decided to merge the GVP into the UGDP. We have no issue now since Viola has quit the party and Mickky has decided to sever ties with the GVP. But the GVP will move on like any other political party,” Lyndon said, while saying that the party will soon gear up for the electoral battle in the 2017 Assembly election.
Without naming anyone, Lyndon said certain political leaders have approached the GVP leaders to explore the possibility of joining the party.
“We are in touch with these leaders and we hope that the GVP will rope in political leaders willing to embrace the party,” Lyndon said.
Replying to a question, Lyndon said the GVP will concentrate only on those seats where the party has influence among voters.
“We will not field candidates in all the 40 Assembly constituencies, but will instead concentrate only in those seats where the party has some base or influence among the voters,” he said.
Saying that the party is now being headed by GVP Vice-president Ramnath Bandodkar after Viola quit the party last week, Lyndon said the party executive committee will meet within a week’s time to discuss the issues facing the party, and to decide whether to fill up the vacant post of president or continue with Ramnath Bandodkar till the Assembly election.
