Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said that a feeling is growing amongst the people of Curtorim that Sonsodo garbage dump is not a priority for the Goa government and it is not keen to solve the burning issue for good.
In a letter to Waste Management Minister, Michael Lobo, the Curtorim MLA pointed out that he had been raising the Sonsodo garbage dump issue for the past many years within and outside the Goa Legislative Assembly, but lamented that it has not been resolved to date.
“Let us not forget that Sonsodo garbage dump is an unwanted legacy of the past which has affected the health and overall well-being of the people especially the elderly and the children residing in both Curtorim constituency and in the surrounding areas,” he said.
He recalled that he had highlighted how the populace in and around Sonsodo garbage dump is dejected and frustrated as their health is severely affected by the poisonous smoke billowing from the fires starting at the aforesaid site.
Saying that he has not received any replies from the office of the Waste Management Minister to his letters, especially on the Sonsodo garbage dump management and remediation plan, Reginaldo said he is answerable to the people of Curtorim constituency who are keen for a permanent solution on the issue.
