MARGAO
The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) appointed remediation contractor brought its second remediation machine at Sonsodo as part of the operation to remediate the legacy dump.
The machinery mounted on a heavy duty truck was seen parked on the main Sonsodo-Curtorim road on Sunday after it was brought from Hyderabad.
If sources are to be believed, attempts will be made to get the machinery unloaded on the Sonsodo dump yard on Monday.
Though it’s exactly a week now since the Goa Waste Management Corporation had started the remediation process at Sonsodo, the operation has not gone into full steam with the existing machinery giving technical problems to the contractor.
The plant went into operation on Sunday noon, before coming to a halt later in the evening due to a technical snag in the hydraulic pump.
Since then, sources said the machinery has not worked to its full potential, throwing up questions on whether the GWMC will be able to remediate 70 per cent of the dump before the onset of monsoons.
GWMC officials have exuded confidence that the ongoing operation will go into full steam once the second machinery starts working on the dump.
The Corporation also expects the Margao Municipal Council to take steps to cart away the remediated waste to the various sites.
