An inspection carried out by Margao Municipal officials at a place opposite the South Goa district hospital has revealed that a Sonsodo is in the making.
An MMC team comprising a Junior engineer, sanitation inspector and market inspector besides supervisors descended on the place, only to find a huge dump of dry waste lying there.
The inspection was carried out to verify the facts after Chief Officer Manuel Barretto received a video that had gone viral showing mounds of dry waste stacked at the place.
Sources informed that the Junior engineer is believed to have told the owner of the property to come and see the Municipal Assistant engineer on the issue. It could not be ascertained whether any show cause notice has been sent to the party or whether the civic body is in the process of initiating action.
Civic staff who were part of the inspection, however, are believed to have told higher officials that the dry waste has been staked at the place.
A group of citizens, sources said, a couple of days ago, pointed out how the dump has taken place in the locality in the vicinity of the South Goa district hospital. Questions have been raised about how the activity had skipped the attention of the Municipal and other authorities to date.
