Members of the panel including city businessman Datta Naik, Fomento Green CEO Sridhar Kamat, besides Margao Municipal Chief officer Y B Tawde discussed the situation at Sonsodo as well as the door-to-door collection and segregation of waste.
The monitoring committee, which has met after more than a year-and-half, took stock of the operation of the solid waste management plant run and the status of the land fill site.
Fomento green CEO Sridhar Kamat said that the work on the landfill site is at the advanced stage of completion, while exuding confidence that the landfill site will be ready by September.
The panel also took note of the progress of work by city-based architects, which were roped in to help the civic body to assess the difference of amount to be deducted from the payment to be made by the Civic body to Fomento Green for not carrying out sorting of waste at the site as per the concession agreement.
The panel also took into account the collection of waste in the city, with members emphasizing on the need for segregation of waste at source. The Chief Officer briefing the panel on the steps initiated by the civic body on the waste collection front and the decision adopted by the Municipality to outsource door to door waste collection.
The panel has decided to induct a noted engineer from Fatorda on the panel in place of an engineer, who had quit the panel a year ago.
