MARGAO
It’s not even three days since the controversial Coastal Zone Management plan (CZMP) hearing had ended on the SGDPA parking lot in the wee hours of Friday, and litter and stench has returned back again.
Workers engaged by the pandal contractor are still on the job to dismantle the massive makeshift structure put up on the SGPDA parking lot for the July 8 public hearing on CZMP, but unscrupulous persons have started dumping waste again at the far corner of the parking lot.
On the eve of the public hearing, MMC workers and trucks had got the eyesore removed, including the trash and the litter, and had deployed workers to undertake fogging of the place around the mini-garbage dump.
Things, however, seemed returning back to square one post-public hearing, throwing up question why the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) allows dumping of the waste on the parking lot. And, questions are being raised why the Margao Municipal Council is not prompt in clearing the waste from the site on a daily basis.
Sources in the know informed that the market waste find its way on the PDA grounds almost every dayin the absence of any facility to channelize the waste generated in the complex. In addition, taking advantage of the open dumping of waste, sources say waste from outside the complex also finds its way in the area, turning the entire place an eyesore.
