South Goa candidate charges BJP, Cong for acting as silent spectators on State issues

MARGAO
Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) South Goa candidate Rupert Pereira has charged the BJP and the Congress for acting as silent spectators instead of taking the burning issues plaguing the State in Parliament.

After filing his nomination papers before Returning Officer Asvin Chandru in the presence of party leaders, including RGP lone MLA Viresh Borkar, Rupert later told the media that the double engine governments of the BJP and the Congress have miserably failed to mete out justice to the people of Goa over the years. “Both the BJP and the Congress owe an explanation to the people of Goa over their failure to address the issue of Mhadei, coal transportation, political reservations to the STs, etc when these two parties have been in power in the State as well as in Delhi,” Rupert questioned.

He added: “Let these two national parties come clear before the people and the youth of Goa what they had done over the years to ensure that jobs in Central government organisations such as Posts, Banks, etc are provided to the Goan unemployed youth.”

Saying that his door-to-door campaign launched around four months ago has evoked encouraging response from the people of South Goa, Rupert said the party’s decision to plunge into the campaign early has given the leaders and workers to understand the grievances of the common man across the constituency.

“We have to win the May 7 election if justice is to be done to Mhadei or to put a stop to coal transportation or resolve the long-pending issue of political reservations for the STs,” he said, while exuding confidence that the people of South Goa will vote and elect him to the Lok Sabha.

“We had started our campaign early. And, our workers have the passion and the enthusiasm to take the campaign forward. People do not want the national parties. People have now realized that the BJP and Congress have fooled them over the years,” he added.

When the media asked him for his comments on the recent communal tension witnessed at the Sancoale Church and at Sao Jose de Areal over the installation of the Shivaji statue, Rupert said no one should take the law in their own hands, adding that whatever is done should have the backing of the law.

MLA Viresh sought to blame the migrants for trying to foment communal tensions in peaceful Goa and vitiate the atmosphere. “If you see the communal tensions are being initiated by the migrants. The people of Goa are all untied and will remain in the future,” Viresh added.

Rupert pooh-poohs BJP claims on Nari Shakti

MARGAO: Revolutionary Goans Party South Goa candidate Rupert Pereira has pooh-poohed the BJP claim that the party is committed towards Nari Shakti in order to empower the women of the country.

After filing his nomination papers, Rupert questioned whether the BJP decision to field Pallavi Dempo for the South Goa seat is an attempt to empower women or to further empower an industrialist woman with a booster dose. “The BJP talks about Nari Shakti these days. But, the party has fielded a woman candidate, an industrialist. Did Pallavi require empowerment or is it an attempt to give her a booster dose to further empower her,” Rupert questioned, while literally demanding to know why the BJP did not field an ordinary woman for South Goa if the ruling party is committed for the empowerment of women.
