Strange it may seem, but true, that employees attached to the office of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades are without their salaries for the past one year.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, however, told The Goan that the intervening election code of conduct came in the way of the sanction, but hastened to add that he would check up with his department officials over the delay in disbursing the Comunidade employees’ salaries.
Employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades claimed that it’s now a year since they had received their last salary, and their pleas and reminders to the Comunidade Administrator and the government to release their salaries have fallen on deaf ears. “With the educational institutions re-opening after the vacation, this is the time for admissions. Some of the employees had to literally borrow money from their relatives and friends to arrange money for their children’s admission fees,” an employee remarked.
The employees claimed that this is not the first time that there’s been delay in disbursing their salaries, with an employee saying that the failure to clear their salaries only goes to show the apathy and indifference of the administrator to their plight.
When The Goan called up Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte to shed light on the claims made by the employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades, he said the intervening election code of conduct, which had crippled the administration in general, must have also come in the way of clearing the salary payments of the employees. “I think I had given the sanction for the payment of the salaries. But, I will check up with my office on Friday how the payments of salaries to the employees got delayed,” he said.
Khaunte, however, pointed out that the government had last year made it clear to the Comunidade Administrator to take steps to become self-sustaining in the salary payments.
