Despite many months having passed, the construction on the headquarters of the Marine Range in South Goa at Galgibaga is yet to begin. There also no indication of an administrative system being put in place at Canacona.
In a notification issued in March this year, the government had proposed to set up the ranges in North Goa and South Goa, with their headquarters at Morjim and Galigibaga, respectively, to conserve and protect marine life.
According to sources, a Range forest officer (RFO) has been appointed to the Marine Range in South Goa. Attempts to contact the official were futile as the phone number provided to The Goan by sources was switched off.
The jurisdiction of the North Goa Marine Range covers Pernem, Bardez and Tiswadi talukas, while the South Goa Marine Range covers Salcete, Quepem and Canacona.
The range in North Goa is under control of under the control of Wildlife and Eco-Tourism (North) Division, while the range is under the control of Wildlife and Eco-Tourism (South) Division.
