South Goa MP slams Centre for ills plaguing economy

MARGAO
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Saturday slammed the BJP government ruling at the Centre for the ills plaguing the economy, including inflation, price rise, unemployment and rising prices of fuel.

Addressing the media, the MP wondered how the BJP government expects the people to survive when GST has been imposed on food items and the prices of cooking oil is rising to unmanageable proportions. “Has this government no eyes to see the hardships faced by the common man due to inflation and price rise. Inflation, unemployment, petrol and diesel prices et al have all increased in the last eight years as compared to the 10-year rule by the UPA,” he said.

Sardinha charged the BJP government for resorting to vindictive politics. Pointing out that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been called for interrogation just to mete out harassment, he said. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was grilled for 54 hours, but the Enforcement Directorate could not come out with any findings. Sardinha pointed out that the BJP has the history of meting out harassment to leaders, wondering how come the same leaders become clean when they embrace the BJP.

The MP demanded an end to 16-B provision in the Town and Country Planning to bring to an end to corruption, even as he has called for streamlining the system for the benefit of the people.

Saying people from Nuvem had called on him to complain of a mobile tower proposed next to a residential house, Sardinha said towers as far as possible should be located away from residential localities.

He reiterated his demand for the demolition of the illegal structure at Old Goa, demanding that the erring officials should not go unpunished. “Why is the government silent on the illegal structure at Old Goa”, he demanded to know.

He has called for the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in resolving the issue of evacuee property in Mayem.
