After hectic discussions, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar confirmed his choice of sarpanchas and deputies in four of the six panchayats in Canacona constituency on Friday night, while panchas elected from Loliem-Polem also got their proposal approved by the speaker on Saturday.
Paving the way for Family Raj in Poinguinim Panchayat, Tawadkar went ahead and got his wife Savita’s proposed unanimously by 7 of the 9 panchas for the top post, which is reserved for women.
Sources said Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar called all panchas supporting him from the panchayats of Agonda, Khotigao, Poinguinim and Shrishthal for a joint discussion on the formation of new panchayat body.
After guiding, briefing and seeking feedback from the newly elected panchas, the Tawadkar camp then announced the names of candidates as unanimous choices for the posts of sarpanch and dy sarpanch, including the candidature of the speaker’s wife, Savita Tawadkar and Sunil Paiginkar as Dy Sarpanch in the 9-member Poinguinim panchayat.
At Agonda, Fatima Rodrigues was nominated to the post sarpanch, while Prettal Fernandes was nominated to the post of Dy Sarpanch in the presence of three other panchas in the 7-member panchayat.
In the 7-member Khotigao panchayat, Anandu Desai and Punam Gaonkar were nominated to the posts of Sarpanch and Dy Sarpanch respectively alongwith 3 other panch-elects.
At Shristhal, Sejal Gaonkar was nominated to the post of sarpanch and Shiva Deshmukh to the post of Dy Sarpanch in the 9-member body.
On Saturday, a group of seven panchas elected from Loliem-Polem called on Tawadkar and informed him about the unanimous choice of Pratiza Bandekar as sarpanch and Chandrakant Sudhir as Dy Sarpanch. Tawadkar welcomed their decision.
The posts of sarpanch at Loliem-Polem, Poinguinim and Shrishthal as well as deputy sarpanch in Agonda are reserved for woman.
The candidates for the post of sarpanch and dy sarpanch will be finalised by Sunday at Khola VP and Yeshwant (Dhillon) Dessai, who returned to the Gaondongrim Panchayat after 25 years, ios set to stake claim to the post of sarpanch.
Also present during Tawadkar’s interaction with the newly elected panchas from Poinguinim, Khotigao, Shrishthal and Agonda were Vishal Desai (BJP mandal President) and local BJP leaders.
