OLD GOA

St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar on Wednesday accused Benny Silveira, brother of former MLA Francisco Silveira, and others of criminal intimidation and threat.
Borkar filed a complaint of unlawful assembly against 30 supporters of the former MLA before PI Tulshidas Naik at the Agassaim police station.
PI Naik has assured Borkar that he would speak to his higher authorities and take necessary action in the matter.
Speaking about the incident, MLA Borkar informed that he had complained to the Agassaim panchayat, traffic police and Agassaim police about a kiosk operating at the Pilar junction which was causing traffic congestion in the busy area.
“The panchayat did not take any action and the kiosk continued operating at the same spot. However, on Monday night, the supporters of ex-MLA Silveira along with Agassaim Sarpanch Xavier Gracias started work in the area apparently to relocate the said kiosk to another place. In the bargain, they even uprooted a tree,” Borkar said.
“Today, they again started doing some work there. When I questioned them, Gracias spoke with me rudely and former MLA’s brother Benny charged at me, despite my request to him to stay back. He also used abusive language against me. They showed utter disrespect to me despite being the elected representative. If they are not afraid of an MLA, one can just imagine what the layman must have been made to go through,” Borkar informed.
“However, I am not going to cow down by such intimidatory tactics of supporters of the former MLA and I will ensure that such dadagiri is ended,” Borkar stated.
“If there is a need to approach the DGP, SP, governor or even the chief minister, I will do so and see to it that people live fearlessly in my constituency,” he said.

MLA asks supporters to not gather at police station, controls situation

OLD GOA: The incident of threat to St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar could have blown out of control, had the MLA not asked his supporters not to gather at the Agassaim police station.
Information available with The Goan revealed that after Borkar was allegedly threatened by Francisco Silveira’s brother, a message went viral urging the Revolutionary Goans to gather at the police station in the evening.
However, as the Agassaim police got wind of the message, policemen were sent to Borkar’s residence urging him not to escalate the issue.
Paying heed to the request of the police, a message was then sent to the various RG groups stating that the programme has been cancelled.
