Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday said that the Scheduled Tribes have never opposed Scheduled Tribe status for the Dhangar community.

Saying the ST community consider the Dhangars as their brethren, Tawadkar further said that the demand raised by the Dhangar community for ST status is genuine “I have always supported the cause of the Dhangar community in their demand for ST status.  I am ready to accompany the Dhangar leaders to the Chief Minister or to Delhi”, he said.

To a question, Tawadkar said the scheduled tribes have never opposed the demand of the Dhangar community for ST status. “President of the Dhangar samaj Chandrakant Kavlekar is aware of the stand of the scheduled tribes to the demand for ST status for the community”, he added.

When his attention was drawn to the August 15 deadline to the government resolve their demand by giving the Dhangars ST status, Tawadkar said the ST communities will always support the Dhangar brethren in support of their demand.
