OLD GOA
The Santa Cruz panchayat authorities along with villagers visited the Old Goa police station, on Monday, to inquire into the delay in filing FIR against the GMC canteen contractor who had dumped garbage bags at Alto Santa Cruz.
Speaking to the media after meeting Old Goa PI Krishna Sinari, St Cruz sarpanch Lawrence Rodrigues stated that he along with panchas and villagers visited the police station since no action has been forthcoming against the GMC canteen contractor.
“PI Sinari has assured to initiate action against the contractor in the next couple of days,” stated Rodrigues who has been constantly following up with the police.
The Goan had highlighted how heaps of garbage bags were dumped at Alto-Santa Cruz on October 17, and receipts of GMC canteen as well as patients diet slips were found in the dump.
A local Arturo D’Souza pointed out that the last time he had complained about garbage burning in St Cruz, the Old Goa police had caught one person. “Why the delay when the GMC canteen contractor is involved?” he questioned.
Another local Domnic Pereira stated that if no action is forthcoming in the next few days, the locals will chalk out a future course of action.
