The no-confidence motion against Santa Cruz Sarpanch Sonu Araujo, which was supposed to be taken up on Friday, had to be called off as the resignation submitted by Araujo took effect.
Panchayat sources informed The Goan that the sarpanch had submitted resignation from the post on March 15 and it came into effect on Friday.
“As the resignation came into effect, it was decided to call off the no confidence motion and the deputy sarpanch will take charge as acting sarpanch till a new sarpanch is elected,” the sources added.
It may be recalled that seven panchas namely Namdev Naik, Lawrence Rodrigues, Lafira Oliveira, Edwin Dias, Disha Kavlekar, Shilpa Bandodkar and Nilesh Kankonkar had moved the no-trust motion against the sarpanch citing carrying out of illegalities and not taking panchas into confidence as the two reasons behind the move.
