A one-day session to pass the Goods and Services Tax Bill will be held on Tuesday beginning at 11.30 am and is expected to also pass the Goa (allotment of plots to certain displaced persons) Bill, 2017.
The session called for the Goods and Services Tax Bill is part of the move to ensure the smooth roll out of the bill, which is expected to replace several state taxes as part of a nationwide initiative.
The Goa Legislative Assembly had on August 31, 2016, unanimously passed a resolution ratifying the amendments to the constitution to pave way for the presidential assent to the Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2016, making Goa the 15th State to ratify
the Bill.
The ruling BJP had advertised that the state would stand to benefit from the GST in the form of receiving a larger share of central taxes.
The second bill, Goa (allotment of plots to certain displaced persons) Bill, 2017, was earlier introduced by the previous government but could not be passed and has now been reintroduced with a view to allot plots to certain displaced persons who were displaced due to acquisition of land for the establishment of 2STC (3 Military Training Regiment) at Salcete Goa.
The assembly will also condole the death of several eminent personalities. The District Administration has enforced the restrictive section
144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in view of the assembly session.
