Acting on a request from the Kerala government, state authorities have provided diesel and other assistance to the fishermen from Kerala who have been stranded at Mormugao Port following the Cyclone Ockhi, to enable them return to their home state.
The Collector (South) informed that fishermen from were Kerala stranded at Mormugao Port due to Cyclone Ockhi have been provided with fuel, to enable their trawlers return to Kerala.

Acting on a request from the Kerala government, state authorities have provided diesel and other assistance to the fishermen from Kerala who have been stranded at Mormugao Port following the Cyclone Ockhi, to enable them return to their home state.
The Collector (South) informed that fishermen from were Kerala stranded at Mormugao Port due to Cyclone Ockhi have been provided with fuel, to enable their trawlers return to Kerala.
The assistance was provided after the Kerala government had sent a req
uest to provide assistance to fishermen of Kerala with the assurance to bear the cost.
In a request dated December 7, the Kerala Additional Chief Secretary P H Kurian had stated that fishermen of Kerala are stranded in the sea and got docked in various ports of neighbouring States, following the Cyclone Ockhi.
"The fishermen could not return to Kerala as they have no money with them and are with insufficient fuel in their boats."
"The State Executive committee Meeting of Kerala State Disaster Management Authority held on December 4 considered the matter and took a decision to provide 700 litres of fuel per boat and financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per head to all fishermen from Kerala who are docked in the ports of neighbouring states."
"Sanction is also accorded for 700 litres of diesel to each boat from Kerala which are docked in the states of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Relief Commissioner of Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat are requested to make expenditure on this account and later claim for reimbursement from the Government of Kerala," the order stated.
Accordingly, the Mormugao Deputy Collector and SDO was directed by Collector (South) to co-ordinate in this regard with Mormugao Port Trust, which agreed to provide the required fuel and raise the bills to the Government for the settlement.
