MAPUSA
A host of works will be kick-started in Mapusa on Easter Sunday.
The Chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council, Rohan Kavlekar, on Friday informed that work on hot-mixing of roads inside the Mapusa market will be taken up from April 1 (Sunday) while other road works around the city will also be taken up and completed before monsoon.
The council will also lay foundation stone for widening of the road stretch from court junction to St Xavier’s College and beautification of the Miracles garden near Gandhi Chowk on April 1.
“All the roads in the main market will be carpeted with a layer of hot-mix to ensure uniformity. Last year a lot of the roads inside the market were dug up to clear the clogged drains. Proper roads in the market will help the shopkeepers and the shoppers,” Kavlekar said.
He said the widening and laying of footpath along the road from court junction to St Xavier’s college has already been tendered.
“We will lay the foundation stone for the project on Sunday and work on the road will start on the same day,”
he said.
The chairperson said that the beautification work of the Miracles garden near the entrance of the Mapusa city will also be taken very soon under CSR activity.
“The Holy cross stationed in the garden will remain at the same spot but will be elevated to a desired height for better visibility. It will be taken up as part of beautification project of the garden,” Kavlekar said.
Cosme Costa & Associates will take up beautification of the garden as part of CSR activity. It may be recalled beautification work of Gandhi Chowk, Mapusa was also carried out by the same group.
In the meanwhile Mapusa municipality has taken up painting of zebra crossings at several places in the city.
In a recent meeting of the District Road Safety Council, North Goa, all the local self-governing bodies were directed to paint speed breakers and zebra crossings in their area to avoid accidents.
It was brought to the attention of the authorities that a lot of mishaps happened because the speed breakers were not visible in absence of
proper painting.
