The State is gearing up for the panchayat elections in June, with the State Election Commission (SEC) sending the delimitation draft to the State government for recommendation.“From next week, work on the reservation of wards in panchayats will be initiated,” said SEC secretary Brijesh Manerikar, while speaking to media persons.
“The SEC had kept the ward delimitation draft open to public suggestions and objections in the first week of March and a total of 913 suggestions were received from the public,” said Manerikar.
“After considering these suggestions, the SEC submitted the revised draft to the government.”
Meanwhile, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godhino has said elections to Panchayats can be held in the first week of June, once the reservation and delimitation process is completed.
Elections to 186 panchayats will have to be conducted before their tenure expires on June 20.
