The preparations were reviewed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, along with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and officials of Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, officials of state government departments.
Speaking to The Goan after the meeting, Chef Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “We had already put a few new things in place. But to be on the safer side, I had invited the defence minister along with officers concerned from his department and also from the Ministry of Home Affairs in addition to the Director General of Police of Maharashtra.”
“Security measures; and facilities required during the summit including the air ambulance which we will have to take from the defence ministry were discussed. Issues concerning various departments like power, security, PWD, fire services, etc and how it will be tackled were also discussed”, said Parsekar.
Meanwhile, he said major public works will be taken up after September 15 and will be completed within a span of 15 days by September 30. “It is an international event and we cannot take any risk”, he said.
Meanwhile sources present at the meeting informed that it has been advised to remove all the roadside hoardings and signages affecting the vehicular flow. The PWD has also been directed to repair and widen the roads wherever possible. However, PWD has been directed to improve the approaches to hotels and venues and the areas to be visited.
