A Sattari-based social activist has demanded that the mines department take steps to stop illegal stone quarrying operations in Pissurlem-Sattari, failing which he has threatened to petition the high court.
Hanumant Parab has also insisted that authorities penalise those responsible for conducting illegal stone quarrying operations in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Parab expressed displeasure with authorities for failing to take action to stop this illegal activity.
“Since the last few years, a number of stone quarries are operating illegally in this area. People have been complaining of noise pollution round the clock and schoolchildren are also affected.”
“I had filed about 20 complaints with the Sattari deputy collector last year alone and only one stone quarry was raided. But the very next day, this stone quarry resumed operations,” complained Parab.
“I will not remain quiet in this matter and if illegal stone quarrying activities are not stopped, I will petition the high court and seek action against the Sattari deputy collector and mines department,” he added.
