MARGAO
A delegation of Margao Salcete Truck Owners Association on Wednesday called on the Goa Electronics Ltd (GEL) to demand streamlining of the payment of charges for passing of vehicles and to
bring the RTO services under one roof.
The delegation led by Association president Franky Gomes called on the GEL General Manager Amonkar on Wednesday to draw his attention to the plight of the truck owners and other commercial vehicles following the government’s decision bringing the transport services under the Citizens Service Centre.
Franky pointed out that a lot of time is lost as the truck owners are forced to shuttle from the District
Collectorate Office to the RTO Arlem office for passing of vehicles.
“Why is the government hell bent in meting out harassment to the truck owners. The government could have very well brought the RTO services under one roof, but has allowed the situation to continue just to mete out harassment to us,” he said.
He pointed out that either the government should bring the passing of vehicles to the Collectorate or shift the payment service to the RTO Arlem office for the benefit of the vehicle owners.
Franky further made it clear to the GEL general manager that they will not swipe their cards for payment of fees beyond an amount exceeding Rs 2000, saying the truck owners are content in making the cash payments.
After giving the truck owners a patient hearing, Amonkar said he would take up their grievances with the RTO officers as well as the government.
