Striking anganwadi workers up the ante

Agitating anganwadi workers who are on an indefinite hunger strike for the last three weeks seeking reinstatement upped the ante warning they will stop intake of even water if they are not taken back to work by Wednesday.

The seven anganwadi workers began their indefinite hunger strike 21 days ago and have been agitating at the iconic Azad Maidan in the capital city for the last 45 days.

Last week, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had last week said he has already told the agitating anganwadi workers that his government will take them back if they give an undertaking that they will not resort to strikes and agitations henceforth.

The workers however have refused to give any such undertaking saying it is their right as citizens to protest whenever injustice is meted out to them.

The group of agitation anganwadi workers, nonetheless, have written to the government that they are not affiliated to any political party and that their strike is also not backed by any political party. 

Interestingly, Women and Child Development Minister, Vishwajit Rane, has not reacted yet to the agitation.
