According to a worker, Raju Naik, the company had served the notice about the closure of the unit few days back. “When we came to know of the closure of the unit, we met the management and urged them to settle our dues before the closure,” said Naik.
“Accordingly, the company management convened a meeting of the workers and the labour commissioner and the company agreed to settle our dues first and then shut down the unit by June 5,” added Naik.
“When we went to work on Sunday, we were surprised to see the premises locked and none of the management officials were present at the premises to inform us about the sealing of the unit,” said Naik.
Another worker, Mohammad Ali said they have been working at the unit for the last two decades and it would be difficult to find an alternate job and that too with the present salary. “Our children’s school will start shortly and we are not in a position to buy their books and other requirements,” said Ali.
“Some of our colleagues have to pay their loans and if installments are not paid on time, then the banks will attach their properties,” added Ali.
“We urge the local MLA and the government to intervene and save us from the situation, failing which we will have to remove our children from the schools and
send them for domestic work to support the family and to help us in repaying our loans,” said Ali.
