PANAJI: High drama unfolded on the fourth day of the demolition drive against structures allegedly built in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) regulations at Tembwada near Morjim beach after a house owner allegedly attempted to take his own life while authorities were demolishing his residence.

According to officials, the incident occurred when the demolition team began pulling down the residence of Rajan Haldankar, whose property reportedly extended over 300 metres. Haldankar allegedly attempted to take his own life, but police intervened in time and prevented the tragedy. He is currently under police supervision.

It is learnt that Haldankar's only son is also a person with a disability.

The demolition drive began on July 20 following a High Court order directing the removal of 23 structures allegedly erected in violation of CRZ norms in the Tembwada area near Morjim beach.

The action is being carried out in the presence of officials from the Revenue Department, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), Pernem Mamlatdar's office, the Public Works Department (PWD), the Electricity Department and other agencies. A police team has been deployed at the site to maintain law and order throughout the demolition process.
