It was sun, sea, sand and then, stress for a group of Punjabi tourists at Arambol beach on Monday after they were accused of driving recklessly on the beach. Pernem police has now registered an offence against one tourist and the owner of a rented car in this connection.
According to reports, a group of tourists from Punjab had gone to Arambol beach on Monday with an SUV registered in Punjab and a car rented from Calangute.
There were women and kids inside these vehicles and the vehicles were seen moving about on the beach.
Locals initially were under the assumption a film shoot had been in progress and later realised that tourists were moving around in a rash manner on the beach. What further angered the locals was that the people in these two vehicles were seen without any masks.
Pictures and videos of the reckless activity went viral on social media, sparking outrage among locals.
Taking note of the incident, Pernem PSI Prafull Giri filed a complaint against both car owners and registered an offence against the car owner, Siddesh Kalangutkar of Naik waddo, Calangute and Rajdeep Singh of Punjab under Sections 279, 336 and R/W 34 IPC.
PSI Giri is investigating the case under the guidance of Pernem PI Sandesh Chodankar.
Pernem police said action will be taken against those persons who were found driving the vehicles on the beach.
Tourists have been frequently seen riding bikes or driving cars on the beaches and when confronted by locals, the tourists claim that if Drishti vehicles are allowed to move about on beaches, why should they be stopped from driving on the beach.
