Support assured, but first snap ties with BJP by September 30: BBSM to MGP

Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) has decided to extend support to Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly polls 2017, if it breaks alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party by September 30.

Simultaneously, BBSM has started the process of floating a new regional party to contest the polls.  The decisions were taken at a joint meeting of the central committee and political cell of the BBSM held on August 26.  Addressing a press conference in Panaji, BBSM Leader Uday Bhembre said, “BBSM has decided to establish a regional political party which will contest the upcoming State Legislative Assembly polls. BBSM is not a political party, but it will remain as the parent body.”
BBSM has also appointed a four-member committee under the leadership of Adv Hrudaynath Shirodkar to frame the constitution and complete the necessary formalities for the registration of this political party at the earliest. The other members of the committee are Adv Swati Kerkar, Mahesh Mahambrey and Vallabh Kelkar.
Stating that MGP is the only political party in Goa which has the same wavelength as the BBSM on the issue of MoI, Bhembre said, “Our delegation comprising Subhash Velingkar, Subhash Desai and Ramdas Saraf has already spoken to the Party leaders after which we have put up a proposal before them. The pre-condition is that they have to break their alliance with the BJP, only after which we will extend our support to them. As we do not have indefinite time, we have served a deadline of September 30 for them to take the decision. If they decide not to break the ties, this option would be completely closed for us.”
Bhembre also informed that the work on establishing a political party has already begun and the BBSM is eyeing 35 constituencies.
“We are eyeing 35 constituencies presently except Nuvem , Benaulim, Cuncolim, Quepem and Velim. We not only have BBSM workers in these constituencies, but also we have identified prospective candidates for contesting the polls”, said Bhembre.
