Besides Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, the other Goan included in the Indian team is Secretary General of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, a member of the Pilar Fathers who hails from Camurlim-Salcete.
Others in the delegation include Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Lok Sabha MPs Prof K V Thomas, Jose K Mani, Anto Anthony, Conrad K Sangma, Supreme Court Justice Kurian Joseph, former Solicitor General Harish Salve, K J Alphons and MEA Secretary (West) Sujata Mehta.
Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao, who is presently in Europe, will also attend the canonization ceremony.
In addition to the official Indian delegation, two separate delegations led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also attend the historic event in the Vatican. Both delegations were given clearances from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Mother Teresa, who will be declared a saint of the Roman Catholic Church, was beatified by St Pope John Paul II in 2003.
The Nobel Laureate had spent 45 years serving the poor and sick on the streets of Kolkata.
