Dabolim Airport Director Gagan Malik on Wednesday confirmed that the 27-year-old man from Vasco, who had reportedly come in contact with a coronavirus patient, was moved from the airport to the GMC hospital at Bambolim, where he is now quarantined in the hospital.

Malik said the passenger, who is employed on a ship, had declared in his self-declaration form upon arrival about his visit to Barcelona and was screened on his arrival to Goa by a Qatar Airways flight on Tuesday night.

“The passenger did not have fever but had cough and as a precautionary measure, was shifted to the GMC. He had declared that he has cough and that he had gone to Barcelona in his travel history. He was then checked and as a precautionary measure, was sent to the GMC isolation ward from the airport on Tuesday night,” said Malik

New measures

Malik said the Dabolim Airport has also beefed up measures to control the spread of coronavirus.

“Around 10,000 passengers have been screened at Dabolim Airport till date. There were earlier two counters, but now we have made added a third counter.   We have three doctors and three paramedics working in the night shift.”

“In addition, there are three doctors and paramedics for day and night duties as well, to due extra flights during the weekends,” said Malik.

“There are regular cleaning operations and fumigation at the airport. We are continuously screening passengers and if the passenger has to be quarantined, we send them to the Chicalim hospital. If we feel the passenger has to be sent for further tests, the passenger is sent to GMC hospital,” said Malik.

QA flights to Goa

Asked if Qatar Airways had stopped flights to Goa, Malik said there was no official information about stoppage of Qatar airways flights to India.

“As of now, there is no official information about Qatar airways but the number of passengers flying by Qatar Airways have come down drastically as of now,” said Malik.
