Two-time former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik had the last laugh after he got Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shift the swab collection centre from the Ravindra bhavan, Margao to the Nehru stadium on Monday.

The BJP leader also got the authorities to designate Ravindra bhavan as a vaccination centre, for persons in the age group of 18-45 years, a move that virtually rejected arch rival and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai’s offer to the district authorities to utilize his Goemkar Ghor for the vaccination in Fatorda.

Health officials led by Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr Deepa Corriea shifted the swab collection centre from the Ravindra bhavan to the nearby Nehru Stadium on Monday noon. IN fact, swab collection commenced at the Nehru stadium on Monday noon itself, with Dr Corriea saying the swab centre will operate every day at the Stadium from 8 am to 8 pm every day, including Sundays.

Health officials informed that the swab collection centre has been shifted to the stadium upon instructions from the Chief Minister’s office.

Former MLA Damu did not makes bones of the fact that he had moved the Chief Minister to shift the swab collection centre from the Ravindra bhavan, which is heading as its Chairman, to the Nehru stadium so that the cultural institution can be made a permanent centre for vaccination. “By shifting the swab collection centre, we can even start the cultural activities step by step in the near future after the COVID cases decline”, he said.

Meanwhile, Damu on Monday launched an ambulance for the people of Fatorda for both COVID and non-COVID operations. “I have received the ambulance from Timblo Pvt Ltd under CSR”, he said, while disclosing plans to launch a hearse van and a mobile mortuary by next week.
