Tainted swimming coach Surajit Ganguly, who has been accused of rape and molestation, has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. The accused will be lodged in the judicial lockup in Colvale, after the Children’s Court at Panaji remanded him to judicial custody when his police remanded ended on Friday.

In the meanwhile, a Mapusa police team which had gone to West Bengal is expected to return to Goa on Sunday. “The police team has recorded the statement of the victim girl and will return on Sunday,” said DySP Gajanan Prabhudessai.

A senior police official informed that the girl will come to Goa along with her parents. “When she comes to Goa, we will record her statement again before the magistrate,” the senior police officer informed.

It may be recalled the swimming coach, who was on the run, soon after a video of him allegedly molesting the minor girl went viral on social media, was arrested in New Delhi last week. He was flown down to Goa and the JMFC court, Mapusa had remanded him to six days police custody.

The minor’s father in a complaint had accused the coach of sexually harassing his daughter for the last six months.
