Tailoring, computer training centres open at Mayem
MLA Premendra Shet tries out the computer facilities at the newly inaugurated training centre in Mayem.

Two new skill development facilities ” a tailoring training centre and a relocated computer training centre ” were inaugurated at Mayem to offer National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) certified courses for local youth and women.

The inauguration was conducted by Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, in the presence of Sarpanch Vasudev Gaonkar, panchayat members Seema Sanjay Arundhekar, Suvarna Chodankar, Dilip Sheth, and others, along with representatives from the implementing organisation and community members. Both centres have been established by Vedanta Sesa Goa “ Iron Ore, under the aegis of the Vedanta Foundation, as part of the company’s skill development and community welfare initiatives.

The event also featured a certificate distribution ceremony for students who successfully completed a three-month Diploma in Computer Application course under the NSDC programme.

The new tailoring training centre aims to equip women with practical skills to help them pursue self-employment or small-scale entrepreneurship. The course spans three months, combining theory with hands-on training. Meanwhile, the computer training centre, now shifted from Haldanwadi to the Mayem Panchayat premises, will continue to provide basic and advanced digital literacy programmes to enhance local employability.

Goa Police handed over 55 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners following an intensive effort to trace stolen and misplaced mobile devices.
