A three-time legislator representing the Taleigao constituency since 2012, Jennifer Monserrate was a prominent political figure in Goa. She was the wife of Revenue Minister and Panaji MLA Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate and the mother of Rohit Monserrate, Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Born on March 24, 1970, Jennifer Monserrate entered electoral politics in 2012 and went on to win three consecutive Assembly elections from Taleigao. In July 2019, she was among the ten Congress MLAs who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Following the merger, she was inducted into Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's Cabinet and was entrusted with the portfolios of Revenue, Information Technology, Labour and Employment, becoming the only woman minister in the Cabinet at the time. She also became the first woman MLA elected from the Taleigao constituency.
Jennifer and Atanasio Monserrate were recognised as the first husband-and-wife duo to serve together in the Goa Legislative Assembly since 2012.
Her demise marks the end of a significant political career spanning over a decade, during which she remained actively involved in public service and represented Taleigao in the State Assembly.
