An IRB personnel attached to Vasco Traffic Cell was assaulted by a tanker driver and cleaner at Cortalim on Friday, after he intercepted the tanker for crossing the Zuari bridge.
The tanker driver and cleaner have been arrested in this connection.
According to Verna PSI Vivek Halankar, the incident took place on Friday morning when the Punjab-registered tanker crossed the bridge which prohibits plying of heavy vehicles.
The IRB personnel Amit Naik who was stationed at Agassaim noticed the tanker crossing the bridge and followed the 12-wheeler tanker, before he intercepted the vehicle at the Cortalim Cross Junction.
“After being questioned by the cop, the tanker driver and cleaner abused and assaulted the cop with blows. The police patrol jeep passing by noticed the incident and arrested both the accused. An offence has been registered against them,” Halankar told The Goan.
Both the accused will be produced before the JMFC court at Vasco on Saturday. The Verna police are further investigating into the case.
