MARGAO
Chairperson of the SC/ST Tribes Commission and BJP leader, Ramesh Tawadkar, has said the Scheduled Tribe community has fought enough to get its constitutional powers and rights in the past and it’s now time for the community to get the government implement the constitutional provisions.
“We had continuously fought right from the 90s to get the Gawdas, Kunbis, Velips and Dhangars included in the ST community. And, later we had taken to the streets to give effect to the constitutional provisions. Now, we need not fight since we have a government both at the Centre and in Goa which cares for the ST Community,” Tawadkar said, while addressing newly-elected ST Zilla members at a programme arranged by the BJP ST Morcha here on Wednesday.
Tawadkar said the newly-elected ZP members should help the downtrodden and the voiceless to come up in life as per the rights guaranteed by the constitution. He urged the newly-elected Zilla Panchayat members to implement the schemes and utilize the budget allocated under the budget head for the benefit of the Scheduled Tribes.
