Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said issues pertaining to the taxi issue, development of Coco Beach and water supply in Nerul can be resolved soon.
He was speaking at Nerul at a meeting with fisherman and boat owners at the Nerul Panchayat Hall in the presence of Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, Nerul Sarpanch Rajesh Kalangutkar, ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar and representatives of Nerul boat owners.
TAXI OPERATORS
Sawant said he was aware that the issue of taxi operators had not been fully resolved to the satisfaction of taxi owners.
“Unless this issue is solved, tourism will not flourish in the State. The next assembly session will be for 22 days and the issue of taxi owners will be solved in this session. However, taxi owners will have to cooperate with the State. If taxi owners remained adamant on all their demands, it will be difficult for the State government to resolve their issue. Taxi owners will also have to take one step backward,” said Sawant.
COCO BEACH
The chief minister said the development of Coco beach has been held up as the Nerul Comunidade is not prepared to issue its NOC for the development of the beach.
“Unless and until the Nerul Comunidade grant permission, no infrastructure such as wash rooms, changing rooms and other facilities can be provided at the beach,” said Sawant.
“I am aware that a lot of tourists visit this beach and enjoy boat tours. The livelihood of several people depend on this beach and hence, I have requested Saligao MLA Kedar Naik to speak to the Nerul Comunidade and obtain necessary permission to create infrastructure on this beach.”
WATER ISSUES
Commenting on the water problems faced by residents of Nerul, Sawant said the existing water pipeline, which was laid in Nerul nearly 50 years ago, is being changed.
“Further, a 15 MLD water treatment plant is being set up at Pilerne. The water treatment plant at Porvorim has also been commissioned. The water treatment plant at Assnora is being upgraded and these steps will increase water supply. By next year, there would definitely be improvement in water supply at Nerul,” assured Sawant.
BENEFITS TO GOANS
Stating that the BJP government at the Centre is providing ample funds for the development of the infrastructure in Goa, the chief minister appealed to people to elect the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
“There has been development across all sectors in Goa. The subsidy to the tune of Rs 22 crore have been paid to fishermen. Several women have been given funds under Mudra Loan by the banks. Around 18 traditional artisans and craftspeople who work with their hands and tools are being offered financial support under PM Vishwakarma scheme,” said Sawant.
