The Vasco Railway Station Tourist Taxi Union (VRSTTU) on Thursday sought strict action against rent-a-bike and rent-a-car owners for parking all their vehicles in the city, depriving local residents and tourist taxis of parking space in the already congested Vasco city.
In a letter to Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar and other municipal, government and police officials, VRSTTU President Veerbhadrarao Teku stated that rent-a-bike and rent-a-cab owners were illegally parking their bikes and cars all over the streets of Vasco, causing a major nuisance to the public in Vasco.
"Since rent-a-bike and rent-a-cab vehicles in this segment have drastically increased, the public is deprived of their parking privilege in the allocated parking spaces of Vasco.”
“Permits are issued to this business based on parking space shown by the rent-a-bike and rent-a-cab owners, but these owners are using public parking space. The Director General of Police had recently instructed the Vasco Traffic Cell to take severe action on these lawbreakers and curb illegal activity immediately, but there is no action seen taken," stated Teku.
Teku accused the rent-a-bike and rent-a-cab owners of harassing customers by forcing them to hire their vehicles.
“There is no fixed rate followed as demanded by authorities. The situation is so bad that there are several people even from other states and talukas are coming here and touting the guests arriving at the railway station,” said Teku, while requesting authorities to initiate strict action against the rent-a-bike and rent-a-cab owners.
