PERNEM
Taxi operators reacted with anger after their applications were not accepted at the Pernem RTO office and chanted slogans against authorities.
The government has invited applications from taxi operators in Pernem to offer them employment at the Manohar International Airport (MIA) at Mopa. The applications were to be submitted between June 9 and 15.
Accordingly, the taxi operators who have purchased vehicles went to the Pernem RTO office to submit their forms, but they were rejected.
Taxi operator Raju Narse stated that 70-80 youth in Pernem had purchased new taxis with the hope of gaining employment at the MIA.
“But the Pernem RTO office is not accepting our applications. The government should accept our applications without any discrimination,” said Narse.
Referring to the recent statement of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that 1,200 jobs have been given to locals in Pernem, Narse demanded that details of these persons should be made public.
He also warned that if the application forms of taxi operators are not accepted by June 15, the taxi operators would start an agitation.
Kiran Toraskar, another taxi operator, said the government should tell them what to do with the new taxis that they have bought.
