How many more months will the Town and Country Planning Department take to decide on the notice served on M/s Ira Exotica Pvt Ltd to show cause why the technical clearance order issued to the controversial 85-room hotel project at Curtorim should not be revoked?
On December 31, 2014, Town Planner P M Borkar had issued the notice to M/s Ira Exotica Pvt Ltd giving the company just 15 days to show cause why the TCP clearance should not be revoked. It’s now eight months since the Town Planner had issued the show cause notice, but mystery continues to shroud the long delay on the part of the TCP department to take a final call on the show cause notice.
What’s further surprising to note is the fact that the Town Planner had cited a host of reasons before issuing the notice, including the bare fact that the government had decided to review the technical clearance order granted to the hotel project. Besides, Town Planner Borkar was categorical in stating in his show cause notice that the conditional technical clearance issued by his office to the project cannot sustain in the given circumstances as the road serving the plot is not having the actual required width of eight meters for the hotel construction as required under the regulation in force and that the road widening proposed by the PWD does not seem to be practical in the near future.
When The Goan contacted Town Planner P M Borkar to shed light on the long delay in taking a final call on the revocation of the technical clearance granted for the controversial hotel project, he merely said that the file is pending with the higher ups in the TCP.
“My office had even conducted a hearing after issuing the show cause notice was served on M/s Ira Exotica. The file is presently pending with the higher authorities in TCP," Borkar added.
When The Goan contacted Chief Town Planner, S T Puttaraju on the issue, he said his office has sought legal opinion from the government on how to go about the matter.
“My office had to seek legal opinion on the hotel project as the Advocate General had made some statements on behalf of the government when the hotel project owner had gone to High Court," Puttaraju said.
Incidentally, though the TCP office had sought the legal opinion from the government around 2-3 months ago, the opinion has not been forthcoming till date.
Activist Abhijit Prabhudessai, who along with the villagers have been waging a sustained battle against the hotel project since last year, expressed surprise over the slow pace with which the TCP is going about the matter.
“Whatever may be the reason, there cannot be a delay of eight months on the part of the TCP to take a call on the hotel project," Abhijit said, adding that the villagers will soon take a call on the future course of action.
