Generation Next for Goa on Wednesday filed a complaint at Vasco police station against the directors of an onshore casino being run at a resort on Bogmalo beach.
President of GenNext Durgadas Kamat claimed that the license of the casino, which expired on August 16, is yet to be renewed. He further alleged that the operation of the casino amounts to an ‘illegal gambling trade’.
“The casino is operating in violation of Section 3 and 4 of Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976. In addition to this, as the five-star classification of the resort has expired earlier in May, even the Chief Minister has refused to grant license to this casino,” Kamat stated.
Claiming nexus between top officials of home department and casino owners, GenNext demanded verification of assets of all authorities involved in issuing casino licenses.
Speaking about shifting of offshore casinos out of River Mandovi, Kamat said that the entire exercise is a drama to hoodwink residents of Panaji.
“Panaji should follow the footsteps of Siolim and Agassaim and raise voice against offshore casinos in River Mandovi,” he stated.
