Goa Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association president, Anant Pisurlekar has said that teachers correcting board examination papers were paid poorly and were not provided basic facilities.
“The education department has failed to provide basic needs like food, water, clean toilets, etc, during correction of board exam papers,” Pisurlekar said while addressing a news conference in Mapusa.
He said presently the teachers were paid Rs 5 per paper and demanded that the remuneration be hiked to Rs 15 per paper. Similarly, he also demanded increase in the dearness allowance from the present Rs 80 to Rs 150.
The association president said teachers in states like Karnataka and Maharashtra received a much higher remuneration to correct exam papers as compared to Goa.
Pisurlekar recalled that previous government had promised construction of “Pariksha Bhavan,” a complex for teachers, which never materialized.
“In the absence of a proper place, teachers are forced to face difficulties during correction of exam papers,” he said.
