The illumination of Shree Maharudra Amrekar Devastan at Alto-Pilerne, undertaken by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) at Rs 40 lakh, was inaugurated on Tuesday, with Saligao MLA Kedar Naik saying it would enhance the temple’s appeal as a tourist attraction.

Naik said the illumination, a long-pending demand of residents, was completed within a month. He said tourists travelling to Candolim and Candolim beach via CHOGM Road could stop to view it, turning the temple into a tourist attraction. A shed for serving meals to devotees will also be constructed behind the temple soon.

Naik said water shortage remained the main problem in Saligao constituency. The 15 MLD water treatment plant was nearing completion and would be commissioned shortly. He said most road and infrastructure works in all six panchayats had been completed, with the remaining works to be finished within four months.

Pillerne-Marra deputy sarpanch Amarnath Govekar thanked Naik for fulfilling the residents’ demand. He said the temple would incur an electricity bill of around Rs 7 lakh for the illumination. The panchayat plans to install solar panels to reduce the bill and will desilt Savlem lake at a cost of around Rs 15 lakh.

North Goa Zilla Panchayat chairperson Reshma Bandodkar, Pillerne-Marra sarpanch Saijal Bandodkar, Santosh Bandodkar, Karan Govekar and other locals were present. Teachers Devidas Kudav and Arun Nagvekar were felicitated.
