Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that temples had contributed and helped to protect the rich cultural heritage of the State.
Speaking at a programme held on the occasion of the installation of a new statue of Sai Baba at Gogol-Fatorda on Thursday evening, the Chief Minister further pointed out that temples are places where people come together by leaving behind their differences.
Stressing the need to protect history and the culture of the State, Sawant said the temples have taught the people to stay together and protect the culture. “In this era, we need to know the history. And, it is important that we protect our culture. Through the temples, we have been able to protect the culture. We have amongst us differences, but we come in a temple, we all come together. The temples teach us to stay united and together and they have contributed to protecting our rich culture. We have to ensure that our culture remains intact”, he added.
BJP leader Damu Naik, who is the president of the Sai Baba Trust, Gogol, also underscored the need to ensure that the coming generations are made aware of the history and culture.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, former deputy chief minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Margao Municipal Councillor Sadanand Naik and others were present.
